some people have been so severely marginalized
in our society,
that we don’t know how.
mentally ill people don’t speak up.
even to their doctors! and, sometimes
even if they do, they are not actually heard:
like an infection caught in hospital
that injures worse than the one prompting the visit
in the first place?
just because i was born,
am i to spend a life disabled
by the very people i was born unto?
we are trying to pretend otherwise
and just pass in civilization, but i wish
to be able to share my life
and reveal the truth of who i am
without risk or retribution or increase
of the discrimination and personal dislike
that shrouds my security, community and success.
